Translator

As a freelance translator, I’ve come to see that my work is about much more than just converting words from one language to another.

It's about carrying meaning, emotion, and culture across borders. One memorable project involved translating a set of handwritten letters from a grandfather to his family—letters that had been unreadable to them for years.

When I delivered the translations, their reaction reminded me why I do this work: to help people connect, understand, and preserve their stories.

Every project is a reminder that language is powerful—and that translation helps bridge worlds.

That's wonderful!

Thank you for your comment, Oluwafemi.

I think it's often easy to forget the impact a translator can have – literally opening up entire worlds to a new audience in the target language, whatever the medium.

I often get presented with letters and memoirs by families whose forebears left Europe during the last century. Now many decades have past, they are eager to explore their family histories and origins. It always feels a privilege to play a role in this discovery.
